Question about Stabilizer balancing

I'm slowly learning how to use a "steadicam". I have an HVX, the Varizoom Aviator arm, Flow Cam Vest, and Hollywood Lite GT Stabilizer.

I started viewing a how to DVD that came with the rig. I'll try to explain as best I can. I found the center of gravity on the camera, made the mark, locked the camera onto the stage, adjusted the sled so it would be slightly top heavy and began balancing it like a sea saw (this is how the video explains how to balance it, and that is what I've been following). But when I rotate the sled in a horizontal direction on my C-Stand, the sled tilts to the side. Let's say the lens of the camera is facing up. When I lift the camera and sled up, the lens tilts to the right. Does that make sense? What could I be doing wrong?
