Question about shoulder mounts....

the stuff in that link look pretty rickety. id steer clear.

the primary thing u need to be concerned with as far as what "will work" on a rods rig is the diameter of the rods/pieces. i.e. is it 15mm or 19mm or XXmm. after that, you need to figure out what "works best" or even more important what "works like u work"

when u get into rods, and follow focus and mattebox, and mounts. you pretty much see value addition for every dollar you spend. buy cheap and it will work cheap. pay for quality and you will get it.

i have used a large variety of different shoulder rigs and NONE of them is perfect at ANY price. i dont really use shoulder rigs that much anymore. but when i did i was all zacuto. that stuff is rock solid and VERY well supported from a company standpoint. UBER expensive but worh every penny!

if you are just setting out getting a rig, there is a LOT to think about. ive posted in a number of discussions about it. do a forum search and see what you can dig up.

500 bucks seems pretty steep for some pieces of plastic. Any suggestions out there for a reasonably priced shoulder mounts setup that will work well?

Have you had the RedRock in your hands? Buddy, that's no "pieces of plastic". I used one for a week and was so pleased with it, I ordered my own. The only issue I had with it was that the pad itself was a bit narrow, but that's being taken care of. But it's a nice beefy unit, and I feel very confident with it.

Freudenberg,

I would be very appreciative to get a user report on this unit.

Grant

No worries. From all the reports the rig is very robust which is perfect. I'm about to get it soon so when I have it I'll write up a review from a buys point of view ;0)
