Question about scene file settings for crisp image

I have been reading a lot of complaints that the HVX200 (old version) does not record a crisp image. However, I have seen many people giving advice as to how to get a less grainy image using the scene file settings.

I have a shoot in a couple of days (not enough time for Barry's DVD to come in the mail) and I really want to achieve a clean image.

I have read that "Detail level" and "Master Ped" are two options that help control grain. Am I mistaken? Also, it is best to use B-Press or Cinelike-V gamma, correct?

What would be an example of a scene file that would give me the cleanest image possible?

Scene files depend on your situation.

Detail level is basically a control of sharpness. Since it's processed after the image (including grain) hits the CCD, reducing detail levels should cut down slightly on grain. Master ped marks the black level; the darker the blacks, the less detail you get in them. Dark areas are always the grainiest in any imaging type in my experience, so it makes sense that putting them towards absolute black reduces the tendancy for grain and minor detail in those areas.

That said, I have never had a problem with graininess on my HVX, even on a full HDTV. Good lighting and not using gain are enough. Also, be aware that every lens functions best in the middle of its aperture range, which would make a minor difference for the minor problems there might be. Again, though, I've never had any issues or reason to complain on that topic.
