Question about ratio and display settings

If I record in "NORMAL" (4:3) - but set my display to 16:9, is my camera recording in 4:3, but showing me what the 16:9 version will look like only on the camera? Or is it distorting what my footage will look like when I transfer it to the computer.

Reason I am asking this is because I was planning on recording in 4:3, but seeing what the 16:9 version will look like immediately will help me for optimal framing.

um,,, huh?

quick answer is No, it will not do that.

if you shoot 4x3 and have your display in 16x9, all that will happen is it will stretch your 4x3 footage and screw up the aspect display. If you were to shoot 4x3 and letterbox it, thats how it would appear if it were 16x9

but by changing the aspect ratio, your not getting the same area as a 16x9 frame.

your getting a 4x3 frame, strangely stretched to match 16x9

if you were to do 4x3 and get 16x9, you would actually have to cut off some resolution on top and on bottm ( letterbox )
