GH2 Question about quick release plate for GH2

Hello everyone

I'm considering purchasing a quick release plate for my GH2 and I'm concerned that the part that fits on the base of the camera (is it called the sled?) might interfere with the battery compartment. That is the plate might be too wide. I'm not overly concerned about the entire unit, just the part that is affixed to the camera body.

Has anyone had any issues with this?

Are there any QR plates that you recommend for use with the GH2?

Conversely, any you would run away from?

Thanks in advance!

Correction: I often have to take the plate off the tripod to switch batteries. I think I've only had one plate where I had to take the plate itself off.

I've got a few Manfrotto 577 mounts and they work fine - no obstruction to the battery compartment. Though the plate systems are $50 apiece. I know there is a compatible system made by Calumet that is cheaper but I haven't tried it.

The RRS system is based on the classic Arca-Swiss quick release, which is the standard in professional photography. It's slightly different, but compatible with much of it. There are many manufacturers who use this standard, but two of the best known are RRS, & Kirk.

All of my stills cameras are fitted with Arca-style plates, mostly the 'L' plates. But on the GH2 I prefer a flat plate so it does not interfer with the LCD's rotation.

My GH2 is fitted with Kirk's PZ-36 Body Plate. It seems made for the camera, & fits a charm, not extending beyond the base, or blocking the battery compartment.

I also use the plates on my sliders, or such, & have never had one twist. I own two dozen RRS, or Kirk, QRs, & plates, but have never had a compatibility issue.

Kirk also makes a variety of QR plates that adopt Manfrotto's various QRs to Arca-Swiss standard.
