Question about MY workflow

Hey guys. I have read sooooo many threads, and I guess I just need to ask some specific questions.

I just got my GH1 about 4 weeks ago, but trying to figure out my workflow. I am editing on a dual-core system, which was a pain until I discovered MainConcept's MPEG PRO.... I'm using the demo, and it's like editing SD footage. Really smooth editing.

But here is my problem. With MainConcept's stuff, I can import the raw h.264 file right into Premiere cs3 without a hitch.. But if I want to edit in 24p, I have to convert. Well, I've heard everyone scream Neoscene, but when I convert, it won't show up in premiere. It will import, but I just get a black image with sound. I could just edit in 29.97, but what happens when I want to do something with motion involving titles... I don't want my footage to appear 24p, and then my titles look like crappy 29.97 stuff....

Does anyone know what I should do? Is there a converter that works that will not crap up my image quality?

You might have some codec problems on your computer.

You could also try tmpgenc for 24p conversion. It is more complicated but lets you choose whatever codec you want for output. That way, you're bound to get something Premiere will be compatible with.

I'll try that... I should also note for those of you who don't shoot with the GH1... it shoots 24p in 1080, but for some reason when dropped into the timeline in it's raw format comes up as 29.97... So, I guess I just need something to perform the pulldown? Same scenario though.. Would love to not lose any picture quality, and i'd like to avoid doing more than ONE conversion before editing. I'm already losing a generation. Wish it would just simply read as 24p in raw format. Would solve all my problems!

The GH1 doesn't shoot native 1080p24. It wraps it in a 60i file (29.97) that needs to have reverse pulldown/deinterlacing applied in another program. Once you do this, you have your true 24p files. Look at the stickies under Workflow, and there are some great tutorials on using different software. On the Mac, I've used JES Deinterlacer which is free and seems to work just fine. I believe you can use JES on a Windows machine as well.
