Question About Moisture????

I am going to the Caymans tommorow and I am taking my DVX, last time I was in the islands, i had a hell of a time with moisture.

I have a pelican case that I carry everything in, and it is air tight and watertight (has an o-ring, and a purge)

Yet I think that the transfer from the room which is massive A/C to the extreme heat is what does it obviously. So what do you guys think should I leave the camera in the case until I am in the temp. that I will be shooting and let the case aclamate itself, then take the camera out. And Vice Versa, with putting it back into the case before putting it back into A/C filled rooms.

Cause when this bad boy is flashing moisture IT sucks cause it takes forever to get it out.

The obvious solution would be to turn off the A/C.
Second option would be to buy Silica Gel packs (reusable ones), and place them into the Pelican, for when it's in the room.

First option would be best though.

So are you shooting underwater? What is the temperature of the water vs the air temp outdoors. You need to acclimate the camera to the environment where it will be used.

Best,

Jan

Air conditioning cools the air and causes moisture to form from the hunid air. Similar to a cold drink forming water on the outside of the glass. The Demon is moisture, and either the tape or the camera heads or both are the target. If moisture is introduced it causes instant friction that the spinning heads will take off the coating and clog the heads with the iron oxide (or whatever tape formula) particles. The point here is that if you acclimate the camera but keep the tapes in the air conditioning, or vice versa, the same condition exists.
By the way, if you live in a cold climate this situation exists also. I've always allowed at least an hour for things to settle down but I don't know if that's a standard. Oh and the dew light only tells you if the camera is too wet. If you put in a tape right in from an air conditioned environment and plop it in the camera . . . poof clogged heads.

When I do shoots like this.. and yest it a giant pain. I sometimes leave the gear out on the patio area of the hotel.. if it's secure and/or up in the air. That way, I can have it ready to go for when the shoot time comes around. You do also have to be cautious though of the car A/C as well....

I wonder if our HVX's will suffer such a plight... Any guesses? I'm hoping that's long gone since it's all solidstate...
