Question about HVX200 timelapse and battery life

How can I do a time lapse of something that would take 12 or more hours to film?

I apologize if this is a silly question.

I know I can't record on my hvx while it's plugged into the wall, so how would I get around the battery life?

Also, I am assuming there must be a way to record what I am recording directly on my computer or an external HD to deal with the long shoot time.

If anyone can give me any answers, or links to the answers, I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you all for your help and cooperation!

You don't have power for your HVX but you have laptop that will stay running for 12 hours? Do a search for "hvx frame rate hack", get a couple charged batteries (or a really long extension cord), a solid tripod and at least 32Gb of total P2 space. If the tripod is locked of well (maybe even sandbags) a battery swap or two should not effect your timelapse to much.

I will excuse your inability to read my question. My problem is not computer battery life, as I can always plug that into a wall. My problem is that I can't plug in my HVX and have it record. Bringing an extension cord will not solve that problem.

I have a 64GB card, so I have a but of space, and as for swapping my battery out, it would affect my time lapse and my shot since I would have to move the camera....

Buy an external power supply/emergency jump start kit like what you can get from pep boys. Plug in the HVX using AC power supply. Enough watt hours to keep you up and running for a week or more.

why cant you record with the hvx plugged into the wall?
not sure where you got that assumption. but YES you can.

and at least 32Gb of total P2 space.
thats may or may not be necessary. depending on your frame rate, you wont need a ton of space to do time lapses. heck an 8 gig card might be fine...

Usually this would be solved by getting you a cheap dslr and a timer remote or magic lantern firmware hack for achieving best results at the easiest way, but....

I also think powering and "tripodding" your HVX would be just fine by the way kgimedia suggested...

64gb should be enough with 2fps hack... i calculated 15 hours of recording... am i right?

Another thing for saving space on your computer would be buying a Firestore FS-100 with the actual firmware. You would be able to set exact intervalls for the shot, e.g. 00:30:21, maximum time is 24 hours between frames. all frames get stored as a "normal" p2 video file.

This would help you figuring out which intervalls you would need: http://www.time-science.com/timescience/timelapse.asp#calculator

cheers
