Question about hacking GH2

If the Panasonic firmware is GH2__V11 and it is hacked/updated to GH2__V12, then later a second hack to GH2__V13.

If you wanted to go back to that first hack or even the Panasonic firmware, does a higher number need to be created again in Ptool (i.e. GH2__V14) or can you load the older firmware versions, as is, even though they are a lower number than the firmware presently on the camera?

Thanks.

The numerals in the hacked firmware filename are meaningless. Just be sure there are exactly two numerals following "GH2__V" and that you don't accidentally overwrite the original GH2_V11.bin firmware file with a hacked version.

I've applied both the Sanity 5 and the Flowmotion 2.02 at different times on the same camera and never had to go higher than GH2__V12 on the numbering. With either of those two patches, the camera still reported it's firmware was 1.1 so it looks like all you have to do to go back to original is to load the 1.1 file into PTools and then don't select any of the "letter" buttons.

Save it as GH2__V12, copy that to a freshly formatted card, and make sure you have a fresh full charged Lumix battery in the camera. Do NOT use 3rd party batteries, you probably know this but a warning never hurts.

If power is suddenly lost while updating firmware you usually lose the camera.

You might wait for LPowell to comment on this just to be sure what I said above is right.

Ah, he beat me to it!

That's correct, once you hack the GH2, you can't use the original GH2__V11.bin file to revert the camera back to the unhacked firmware. What you can do instead is launch PTool, load GH2_V11.bin, and immediately save a firmware version that has no patches checked (except for the "Version Increment" patch that's checked by default). I saved this "unhacked" patch as GH2_V00.bin to distinguish it from the original firmware file.

Thanks LPowell and Bruce.

Good thing i asked. It actually wasn't clear to me that an "unchecked" version of the original firmware had to be created in Ptool.

Also good to know I can revert back to another hack regardless of the number.
LPowell, I posted this question because I'm going to revert back to your Flow Motion patch.

Yeah, I like the flow motion 2.02 the best, I know there's always new patches, Driftwood has some that people like, but I honestly have never needed anything else the flowmo.
