Question about final output after editing

I bought the HMC40 for depositions so I really haven't cared about the final quality. Its been serving my purposes nicley. All of my output is through pinnacle and burned to DVD. Using XP for OS. Workflow is acceptable on my computer specs. Cant do more than one clip at a time, but I can live with it.

Now I'd like to utilize the camera for some HD purposes and get the best out of it..
So correct me if I am wrong. I'll need a BluRay burner for my computer, BluRay discs, plenty of HD space, and then a BluRay player hooked to my HD TV. Is that right?
I assume I'll just drop the clips into my time line, use the Pinnacle selection for burning to BlueRay and then burn.
Is this the process to get the best quality from my camera? (other than hooking the camera straight to the TV HDMI input, not feasible for my purposes or sharing my video with other BluRay player owners)

And what type of quality file do I actually end up with? I try and keep up with the discussion on what you really get with HD cameras but dont have the best grip on the discussion.
I'm shooting in the HMC40 highest quality settings and just want to get the best final viewing on my LCD TV.. without hooking the camera to the TV.

And of course, any other direction or suggestions, please...

Thanks,
GLB

It is possible to burn an HD Disk on a standard DVD; it's called an AVCHD Disk. An AVCHD disk will play on a Blu-ray player in HD; however your time is limited to 20 minutes.

When creating an AVCHD Disk, the encoding time takes FOREVER, but once finished the results are very good.

I use a MAC, so I can't talk about PC Software, but if you are on a MAC, I can tell you what I use.
