F5: Question About F5 Viewfinder Display

I'm researching purchase options for my soon to get PMW-F5. After reading Alistair Chapman's review of the Alphatron EVF, I'm sold on getting the Alphatron instead of the Sony L350. I'm wondering if I lose any display functionality by going this route. Can anyone tell me if there's info presented on the L350 that won't be on the Alphatron(SDI-sub-port)? For sure, I gain waveform, false color and vectorscope with the alphatron.
Thanx for any feedback.

Morgan,
Thanx. All the functions you mention are replaced within the Alphatron, itself....peaking, histo and zebra. The only thing I can identify is a non-calibrated EVF, which I can do with the cal functions on the Alphatron. It has, even, SDI passthru, so I'm not even losing a monitor port.

Except the Alphatron burns in if someone lights a candle 100 yards away at midnight and you don't close the eyepiece iris. :Drogar-Angry(DBG): YMMV. If I had the choice, I would go with the integrated Sony VF on the F5 over an Alphatron.

I can concur with this. I own an Alphatron (currently on eBay!) for my Sony F3 (also on eBay!) and never had a problem with it when I was the operator. Great piece of kit for a owner/op who pays attention. However, on two of the rare occassions I rented the camera and Alphatron EVF to others, it came back with spots on it. I had the Alphatron sent in for repairs the first time, cost of $350. Now I'm just selling the Alphatron in it's existing condition. If you want a great deal on a used EVF for an owner op, great deal. But for higher durability, Sony would be the way to go.

Thanx. I read several very similar reports about the Alphatron burning. I've decided to go with the Sony. And Sam is right, losing the ability to zoom on focus is too critical a loss.
