Question about archiving

This might be a stupid question, and if it is I appologize, but I ran a search and couldn't seem to find the answer.

Here's what I want to know:

Is it possible to archive HVX footage to standard DVDs, and be able to fit more 1080p24 video on a dvd by turning the raw mxf. files into compressed zip files?

In other words, can I burn the raw video mxf. files to DVD instead of the "actual video" files, and be able to fit more information on a dvd that way for archiving -- and then, later, when I need to access the video, "reconstitute" it in a pc?

I backup all my MXF files to DVD. I've never tried compressing them. I don't see why that wouldn't work. I'd just compress the entire folder off of the P2 card and not just the individual MXF files. I think they have to be in proper locations in order to work right.

I have five 4 gig P2 cards so I back each one up to a data DVD.

When I need a clip, I load up the DVD, open P2 Log import it as a QuickTime file and away I go.

As soon as I get the 5.1.2 FCP upgrade I should be able to do it right inside of FCP and not have to use P2 Log for that anymore.

Also, no question is stupid. We all at some point new nothing about the HVX,P2 or MXF files.
That's what this forum is all about, to share information and to learn.
Hope this helped you out.
