question about a mount and e mount compatibility

Hey guys. I just received my new fs100 and I love it. One question I am trying to clear up though. Can I attach an A mount lens to the e mount fs100 without an adapter? I understand I will lose autofocus, but I was still curious due to the lack of available e-mount options. Also, if this is possible, do all a-mount lenses adjust aperture on the lens itself or is it electronic controlled. If electronic, will the fs100 be able to control the aperture of an a-mount lens. Thanks so much for anyone that knows the answers to these questions.

Alpha and E mounts are physically very different -- the flange-focal distance on Alpha is much longer, just for one thing -- so you will certainly need an adapter.

The A mount lens I have has no aperture ring, so control via the camera is the only option. Using the Sony LA-EA1 adapter, this works, but is clunky -- the lens goes "cha-chunk" at every step, there's no way you could adjust aperture during a take.

Right now, with an FS100, there is no way to update the LA-EA1 firmware (yes, the adapter has firmware) unless you have a different NEX camera. I think this is getting fixed in the upcoming FS100 firmware update, and then we will be able to update the LA-EA1, which supposedly brings some benefits. Also, note that there is also the LA-EA2 adapter -- I don't know if this works on the FS100 yet.

LA-EA2 is currently a dumb adapter until firmware patch.

And for the record the EA1 "Cha chunk" is really loud and noticeable!
Played with it at B&H couple weeks ago. I was actually startled by it
a bit haha.
