Question about 24p setting

I seem to be full of really simple questions tonight. Could you guy possibly run me through the setting that you have on your DVX for getting a 24p video file. I followed the book (this time I actually read it twice) and I think I have it all set up right. Then when I pop any footage into the NLE I got really choppy footage. I set up the file as a 24p file but I'm still getting choppy footage. I just want to hear from you guys about the settings to make sure it's not something simple I'm missing before I go through the wonderful (but tiresome) processes of redoing all the footage I have in Vegas. Thanks guys and again I'm serious about putting something in my next film abotu the forum here. It's quite informative and helpful.

You should be able to flip to scene file 5 for 24p Standard pulldown, or scene file 6 for 24p Advanced pulldown (recommended if you are editing in 24p). Turn the dial to F6, shoot, capture, edit in 24p timeline. It can be as simple as that.

Just be sure your capturing correctly.

24p = NTSC 29.97 -- leaving the pulldown in to edit on 29.97 timeline
24pA=NTSC with pulldown removal. --removing pulldown to edit on 23.98 timeline.

Factory defaults on the DVX = F5 24p, F6 = 24pA

Truth, if you shot 24p, select 2:3:2:3 pulldown. If you shot 24pA, select 2:3:3:2 pulldown.

Also be careful when you create a DVD. You want to make a progessive scan DVD, not an interlaced DVD.

I author with Encore 2.0 and I do my transcoding in Sorenson Squeeze to create an NTSC compliant file. I tried transcoding in Encore but got a much better look going through Sorenson.
