Quck questions about FS700 + Odyseey 7Q or 7Q+ (sorry for dumb questions)

I've never used a raw recorder before, but have used external monitors. I have the FS700.

I'm trying to get some exact information (and I know these are dumb questions - just looking for actual specifics)

From what I can gather or I'm unsure about:
Odyseey 7q vs 7q+

The original can do 4k/UHD via SDI
Has raw support or Apple Prores
240FPS forever in 1080 (or 2k?)
4k / 120 4 second burst

If I were to stick to a Fs700 - any reason I'd need the Q+? Is the licensing price for the RAW add on about the same?
Framerates and media the same as far as SSD drives?

If I moved to the A7s it'd make more sense to get the 7q+ correct to do 4k HDMI recording?

Just trying to get my head around all of this stuff. I haven't researched the cost savings between the two.
Oh yeah - is the RAW $995 license transferable without any issues?

Thanks so much and please forgive me...just crazy work scedule right now.

Also - the Atomos Shotgun appears to have SDI input and 4k recording via SKI - from a quick glance the framerates don't appear as high andI don't see RAW as an option. Does that sound right? It won't even do 1080p240 in 1080p?

No

Yes

Yes

Note: the 7Q is no longer sold (new). I have one in excellent condition that I would sell.

The only difference is that the 7Q+ accepts 4k over HDMI input. This would be valuable for G4, A7s, etc.

As Jim said, as long as you stay with FS series no real reason to get the + version (oh, well, reports on iffy raw in the FS7 and it can output 10bit 4K via HDMI, but only at low frame rates).

The Shogun is a much cheaper alternative if you never want to record at higher frame rates than 60p HD and 30p 4K.
But the only reason to get the Shogun is if you really can't swing an Odyssey financially.

When used with an FS700, performance on the Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+ are identical.

The Odyssey RAW Bundle is $995. It is designated to the individual Odyssey device and is not transferrable If by a "transfer" you are asking about the ownership of the Odyssey RAW Bundle were you to purchase a used Odyssey7Q or Odyssey7Q+, then the answer is that the Odyssey RAW Bundle would port along with the device itself. This of it as akin to buying a car with a nice paint job. We don't strip off the paint.

The amount of data that can be held on an SSD is identical between the two Odyssey models.

The only functional difference between the Odyssey7Q and the Odyssey7Q+ is the ability to capture 4K over HDMI. The HDMI input on the Odyssey7Q is limited to 1080p30/1080i60. Over HDMI, if you want to capture up to 1080p60, UHD30p or 4K24p then you will need the Odyssey7Q+.

As noted above, the Odyssey7Q is no longer manufactured, although Convergent Design continues to support it with firmware updates and service. We will soon offer an extended warranty for purchase.

With the Odyssey RAW Bundle installed, these are the formats & frame rates available on either Odyssey model:

4K RAW 24, 25, 30, 50, 60
4K RAW Burst 100, 120
2K RAW 24, 25, 30, 50, 60, 100, 120, 200, 240

4K RAW processed and converted to 4K, UHD, 2K or HD video and recorded in Apple ProRes in HQ, 422 or LT:
4K RAW->Apple ProRes 24, 25, 30, 50, 60
4K RAW Burst->Apple ProRes 100, 120

2K RAW High Speed->2K Apple ProRes 100, 120, 200, 240
2K RAW High Speed->HD Apple ProRes 100, 120, 200, 240

There is no other device that can record all of these formats as well as offer the option to convert them to Apple ProRes and do so at all of these possible frame rates. Nothing even comes close.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Unless I could get a great deal on a "non +" it'd make more sense to get the newer model.

We just launch a firmware update a few minutes ago. Please add this last one to the list:

2K RAW High Speed -> 2K Apple ProRes 100, 120, 200, 240

;-)
