Quantum of Solace

I just saw Trailer #2 for this. It is going to blow Casino Royale out of the water I think. It'll surpass it no problem.

This movie is officially #1 on movies I want to see RIGHT NOW!!!! LOL.

That is brilliant.

I was disappointed with Royale. I think the Bourne series raised the bar in the Superspy genre. Either Bond keeps up, matures and skips his "parcour" superman nonsense and gains on the suspense, or it should be another middle of the park borefest.

Blasphemy.

Disappointed with Royale ? Please do tell ?

Well, I think my main problem with the film was that all the marketing raised my expectations to a point where I was expecting some kind of breaktrough on the Bond formula. All the marketing that basically said "Its a serious film!"; " Its Bond's Origins!" "Its based on a more serious Bond book!" made me expect that I was to see something special- and it wasn't.

What I got was the same over the top Bond action- one can say it was toned down, but, for example, the opening "parcour" chase was absolutely ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I do like the gadgets, the cars, the girls and the villains. I was expecting, however, that those would've been taken to an exciting new direction.

It was an inconsistent script, with a very forced ending. The only part that really surprised me didn't have anything to do with plot, but a small gag about Bond playing cards and having to swallow his ego.

It was an average blockbuster. If I was not influenced by the hype, would I've liked it more? Probably. But I believe that the fact that I don't even recall most of its scenes is a sign of how unremarkable the experience was for me.

Each to his own.

I find it one of the best Bond films ever made and Craig is offically my favortie Bond (no secret here).

I do concur, the parcour scene should have been way toned down, but the subsequent execution of the bomb maker was a great intro to our new Bond.

I loved that part! I don't know but maybe if you weren't really aware of parcour prior to the movie it might have exaggerated it into phony movie stuff but that crap is real. I think the only part that bugs me a bit is when Craig is climbing the scaffolding the same way the bomb maker was.

Also, Daniel Craig is the man! He even got into shape like any real elite fighter/secret agent would have to be. I usually can be very picky about the believability of action movies and Bond gets a little extra clearance, cause it's well you know, it's Bond, but in my book Royale was as legit as it gets. Im hyped for Quantum, if it's better than the first then, OMG!!

Now that I've been saying the name for a while Quantum of Solace sounds sweet to me.

Hell yes. I dig it.

I just thought they made the mistake of pulling out every parcour trick in the bag. Much of it was really fun and acceptable, but there were some parts which left me going 'uggh.' I'm scarred from when Pierce was surfing the iceberg tidal wave using the fin of the car. :P

Exactly. It was way over the top. I've actually seen many parcour videos, and I'm well aware of what these guys are capable of doing, specially that fellow, who I believe was the guy that practically invented that modern "movement", but what annoyed me was how Bond chased someone like that. It was like watching a Bizarro Michael Myers following a victim. As much as the Parcour guy ran, or did impossible athletic things to escape, "Michael Myers Bond" was right around the corner- This, In a foreign, 3rd World Country with unorganized traffic and tens of thousands of people filling the streets...

Then again, like I said before, I had too much expectations due to the marketing and hype machine for the film. If I was to embrace it as a typical Bond movie, I wouldn't have been so critical...

My expectations are obviously lower this time, so probably I'll have more fun in this Craig sequel. He was good on the role, I consede, but lets hope those Bond Girls are way better written and better Eye Candy than on Royale.. (The Bad Bond Girl deserved way more air time in Royale :) )

What I did like though ...

Was Bond's more blunt appraoch to getting through the obstacles. Parcour boy dives through a window, Bond bodies his way through the drywall ...

I think once this opening scene was over, it toned down a bunch.

THE director is legit on this one (kite Runner, Starnger Than Fiction, Monster's Ball, FInding Neverland)

It should be a refreshing change from Martin Campbell who, although skilled in his own right, isn't the auteur that Marc Forster appears to be.

marc foster is ballin' should be good. even though finding neverland is the first movie i fell asleep to, i just saw stranger than fiction and it was really well done.

That trailer was sick!

With the parcour scene, like Hudson said, Bond's moves were way more rough the the bomb maker. With the exception of climbing the scaffolding, if I remember right, Bond never really did any parcour, even when he jumped from crane he hit his upper body practically falling off, then jumping down to the buildings he hit hard and rolled off the top, the bomb maker did that stuff like a pro. Even to get down the pressured lift Bond didn't jump, he smashed his way through. I guess maybe I'm being picky but overall Bond got his ass beat in the chase and the bomb maker got to what he 'thought' was safety.

Yeah and I cant believe Martin Campbell directed that movie, with Foster at the helm now we may be in for a really big treat. This could be old old news but I just read that Tarantino had the original idea for Casino Royale remake? And I guess he was pissed they didn't let him direct it or even contact him at all, how do people in this world not let Tarantino direct whatever he wants to?

Just saw it... midnight showing out here... VERY GOOD FILM. Some may argue Casino Royale is better... but there is something about Quantum that really stood out for me... I need to see it again before I can make a fair judgment... but it's a very good film regardless... Craig is just an amazing Bond... I seriously have nearly forgotten all other Bonds...

I saw it as well. If you are a Bond Purist you may not like it. To me it was more like the Bond Ultimatum. The action scenes were fantastic and Craig is great in the role. The story just didn't do it for me. It was a good movie but far less bond-ish than any other bond film to date. Although the action was better in this, I did enjoy Casino Royale better. There is one scene that was almost indentical to a scene in the last Bourne movie. That.... I did not like.

I have to agree that Craig is a great Bond, but this Film was a MAJOR let down. I thought we are done with the shaky camera. The was lots of action, but you could hardly see anything, because the camera was shaking all over the place. The story was thin and it was confusing.

And Bond was not even once in a situation where he was in danger, so you thought he is going to die. Like being chained to a table so he gets cut by a laser or something.

Major letdown!

Agree with all of the above. The lack of Bond gadgets is disappointing. Calling M Mum is also a bit of a change. Everything is way to high tech at MI6 to jump that fast. It just didn't flow for me. The intro was okay. I wanted the barrel of the gun to show up. ERG ERG ERG

I agree with some of the above I suppose. I thought the film was entertaining and a good film but not as good as Casino. It had its own thing going though, so its tough to compare. Action sequences were obviously great, lots of fun to be had there. I did get confused by the story at times but got it at the end, a 2nd viewing will probably clear some things up.

Btw, there was plenty of times Bond was in danger. He was a real superspy in this thats for sure...he did get away from lots of situations but that part at the end where...(highlight)

Where you think they are going to burn to death, I did buy it for a moment that he was going to have to shoot her. There was plenty of stuff in there where he was gonna get killed or seriously hurt.

Either way it was what I expected, entertaining but not that very deep. That's ok though, it's on par with a lot of the entertaining Bond films before it. Better than most of them, and that's saying something.
