How can i get the best quality out of my dvx? I use sony vegas 9 to render, or is there a different program that is better? Also what type of lenses can be used to increase the quality of the camera?

Any glass you put in front of the built in lens will do nothing but decrease the optical quality of the light path no matter what. That said, you may be alright in trading absolute resolution/color/contrast for the positive side effects of whatever you are putting on, like say a 35mm adapter system. But all in all, the DVX lens is great.

If you want a same quality out as in, render as a Microsoft DV (.avi) file with the same setting as your original footage (depends if you shot widescreen/fullscreen, 24p/30p/60i). If you are going to DVD, use the MPEG-2 presets for DVD Architect that match your source footage, then render your audio out separately using the Dolby .ac3 codec. Name the files the same, and DVD-A will be able to find them and link them automatically.

Couldn't agree more. I shot my feature with the DVX and had great results from it. If you look after the footage and set up a sensible work flow the quality is fantastic.

Scene files are so much fun. You can pretend as if you're shooting film, and set up a cool scene file, as if you are shooting on like some really slow reversal stock. No rendering too.

I recommend to get Barry Greens book

The anamorphic adapter for the AG-DVX100 is also a MUST HAVE for any serious cinematography shooting

I have the DVX100, HVX200 and the HPX300. I use Sony Vegas 9 for all my editing needs with Raylight to handle the P2 footage. I have tried other NLE programs but I keep coming back to Vegas and the entire Sony Professional software products.

Everyone will tell you that the Camera is the tool and its YOU that makes the images, the movie or whatever it is you are working on. Only by gaining experience will you start to make better images, and that starts with you simply shooting a lot of different stuff. What I did was to volunteer for everyones projects posted in the crew gigs on Craigslist...I got lots of experience that way. now I own my own video production company and still gain experience.
