Quality of 1080i with fast motion

How do cameras that shoot in 1080i handle fast motion. I have herd that interlaced footage doesn't hadle fast motion very well i.e. sports action.

Who's tested it?

If you've ever watched sports on television, you've seen interlaced footage covering fast action.

Interlaced isn't as good as progressive at the same frame rate; but at the same bandwidth interlaced is a form of analog compression that lets it get more motion sampling per second. For most purposes 60i interlaced handles motion a lot better than 30p progressive does.

60p progressive handles motion better than 60i interlaced though.

So you have to define what you're comparing against.

Thanks Barry for the feed back. I think I have my answer. Naturally the higher the frame rate the better you capture motion. I was just getting second thoughts about buying my 100B after seeing some of sony's HD futage. To bad i can't afford the HVX

The only real reason i can see for going with the sony HDV is true widescreen. The DVX look's so much more film like.
 
Go with the 100B if what you want is true 24P and interlaced at the same time. I made the mistake of buying the FX1 thinking it was progressive because I never truely researched it, now I have to go through the hastle of producing 24fps in post which still doesn't look as good as what you'd get on a DVX.

Then again, if you want the wide screen vibrant HDV look under $4000 get the FX1. But if I were you, wait a month because HD-DVDs and HD-DVD Players will be hitting the shelves next month. [Which will probably add another $300+ to your budget]

Thanks for the info. I have one other concern. Does edditng HD bog down your computer?
I have a new Dualcore i mac. You think It can handle it.

with rosetta HD(V) will be pretty anoying to edit on the dualcore imac, but when a Intel version of FCP is released you will be in buisness, just make sure you upgrade your ram to bear minimum of 1.5gb
 
i figured rosetta couldn't handle it. It can barely handle photoshop.
i think I'm just going to buy the 100B and wait a few years for the HVX to drop.

only if you dont plan to use the 100B's 24p feature.
