Pxw-fs7

The F3 and the FS100 shared the same sensor yet yielded vastly different results. The electronics after the sensor can make a world of difference.

I heard a Sony representative saying it's the same sensor as the F5. BTW a new video with the FS7:

As Mitch already said: The sensor is just one element in your camera.
I would really like to see what the FS7 output is like.

The video doesn't show me, what a great camera the FS7 is. It's already graded and I really don't like what they did to skintones
and highlights. I just hope that the FS7 has a colour output which at least rivals the F5 and isn't worse than the FS700 with the O7Q
in 10bit.

I could be wrong...so please correct me. On my retina display....this looks soft. Much softer than C100/C300 footage. Is anyone else getting that.

Its a mixture of 4K and 1080P (in a 1080P format), but I am not really seeing that 4K sharpness I would expect.

You have to link over to Vimeo to actually view it in HD.

I did and seems to be a bit soft compared to the C300 footage....but it could just be my eyes. Curious to get others opinions.

99% of what I shoot/edit is either RED or Cinema EOS so my eyes are so adapted to that look it could just be me getting use to the FS7 look.

I would really love to know if the FS7 handles concert lights like the A7s. I know there has been some issues with the A7s and blue LED based lighting. Would love to see how the FS7 handles a concert performance environment.

Cool. Thanks Matt. Probably just me only having a second to watch this and been editing all day.

High hopes for this camera. It looks great on paper. Would love it to be what we all hope it will be.

The focus in most of these scenes is not spot on - on the interview it's right behind her eyes, in some
kitchen shots, it's to much in front.

As I already said: I can't see what the camera is cabable of, when I see graded and somehow misfocused
compressed footage in vimeo. This could have been any camera.

I'll wait for the camera to show up in my hands - then I'll know if it's up to my needs.
In the end it's that simple...

what the fs7 likely will prove is that they could have had much better sales of the fs700 if it wasn't such a brick. putting the specs of the c100 next to the fs700, and of course keeping in mind canon vs sony image preferences, it would be difficult to choose the canon if the fs700 had a body even remotely similar in size/usability to the c100, but of course the fs700 had a decent chunk bigger price tag

in any case, yea i'm tempted, and wondering if canon feels the need to at least hint at what they're working on before a ton of people lock in the fs7

I had a similar thought too. I am definitely digging the FS7 so far. I may wait to hear Canon's response. They don't seem to care too much about NAB release deadlines. Just curious what they have been up too. They have really been silent for a while...and one thing is for sure...whatever they release will have specs that are either laughable...or mind-blowing, comparing to recent camera releases.

I am afraid they will release something superior...and also have an equally insane price tag. What would be cool is if they dropped the C300/C500 price tags a lot. Still great cameras.

Anyone have any solid info on the dynamic range of the FS7.

I would be surprised if the FS7 didn't look exactly as the F5 and very similar to the FS700+7Q. So in reality additional footage wont show anything new.

I hope, but this isn't a given fact.

Look at F3/FS100 - they share the same sensor, FS100 is even newer.
But the internal processing of the F3 is so much better, as is the codec implementation.
Different picture profiles and so on.

But in the end I think FS700+O7Q must be very close to what we will see from the FS7.
I'm really looking forward to the final version of the camera and some ooc footage in
s-log3. I'm actually more interested in the XAVC-HD...

Of course it's also the 8bit vs. 10bit output, which limits the FS100 so much.
The missing cinegammas are a drawback, but with the right profile, you'll be able
to produce a nice picture very similar to the cinegammas, but not as nice rolloff
in the highlights.

It can be the same with the FS700/FS7/F5. We don't know yet, if the FS7 uses a similar
processing as the F5. The FS700 outputs a RAW signal, which is debayered and written
to memory by the O7Q either in DNG RAW or 10bit ProRes (HD only until today).
If the FS7 has the same processing power and uses the same internal bit rate signal, that
the FS700 outputs in RAW mode? We don't know and I even don't think so.
I read different information about the internal processing of the FS7.
Some say it's only 12bit (the RAW output seems to be 12bit vs. 16bit on the F5/55),
the internal processing seems to work with 16bit (http://www.sony.com/SCA/company-new...s-new-pxw-fs7-compact-4k-xdcam-camera-w.shtml)
Sounds nice, but I really don't believe that the sensor works with 16bit.
We need to see more first...

Im looking for info about ISO range of this camcorder and still cant find it. When A7s is announced that info reveals quickly, but on this cam it's still a mystery. Only one comment suggest, that ISO range is like FS700/100. Anyone can confirm this?
Also im curious about slog and 2000 - many posts suggest that when slog3 is on, ISO 2000 is just locked. Thats mean no higher ISO in this mode? Slog2 work normal?

ISO range depends on your gammas and goes up to 16000.

SLog is always fixed ISO 2000 in cineEI mode but in custom mode you can
dial in SLog and adjust the ISO as you want.

Got the Camera today, Menus are kicking my ass. I need a good week to figure all of the Settings. not Very intuitive so far. Yes ISO is 16000 very clean too.
