What I would like to know is if the camera will record to standard SDHC or SDXC cards? I see the SDXC logo in two different spots on the brochure, but see nothing about whether it will actually record to them, and if so what formats.
 
I'm amazed that Panasonic are remaining so quiet about it. It's supposed to be released in "early 2014" which surely can't be too far away, but all they have done, as far as I can see, is one press release and one video.

As for SDXC support, it's my guess (and hope) that the lower bit rate formats will be able to be written to SD. I base that guess on the fact that the micro P2 adapters have some SD support.
 
Perhaps they'll make a stink about it at NAB, perhaps? April is still "early 2014". But yeah, I just heard about it yesterday and it was announced a couple of months ago.
 
The same thing happened when the HPX250 was released. I don't think the first sample footage was released by Panasonic until the week before the release. They hold their cards very close. We will probably have to wait for the release date and price before we see any footage from the PX270.

Not that I've been able to find. I also sent an email to Panasonic Australia, and they didn't even know about the camera. Told me to contact a dealer, which I already have. They had no information either.
 
I'd love to have at least 120fps in 1080 (720 is okay) and a constant aperture lens (f/1.6? - probably won't happen).

I've been pretty loyal to Panasonic - as far as traditional prosumer cameras (HMC150, HPX170, HPX250) - primarily because of one feature: LAST CLIP DELETE.

I cannot (literally) use a camera without this feature, so I hope this one has it too.
 
Constant aperture will not happen in this class with such a long zoom. (unless it's limited to something like f3.5, which would be a killer for them, sales wise)

I'd find last clip delete extremely useful too.

I'm still buying the full sized F series. I just feel something's missing w/ the micro P2 cards. It's either not being able to support all the frame rates the upcoming Varicam 3. And as a personal preference, Micro P2 is too easy to get misplaced in the field. Probably another decade or longer before full sized P2 can become obsolete. It's still abundant. And after 4 years of use, the life meter is barely moving for my 64 Gb E series. Gonna be a very long while before that life meter go to at least half way.

Still very skeptical to upgrade. Yes, the PX270 may reach near perfection (but not perfect in this realm) with the recording section, but the optical section will be the bottleneck that Panasonic will never want to admit. What's the point of having uncompressed recording when the optical section is still lagging behind? The end result will not going to magically make the footage look it better. I'm struggling with the HPX-250's mediocre lens performance at certain challenging lighting condition. It's blurry and soft when lighting is not ideal. This is found 3 other HPX-250s. So it can't be that I have a flawed unit. Definitely a gimmick on AVC-I 200. From the look of the photos, the PX-270 lens is very similar to the HPX-250. Yawn on this one and will wait next 6-12 months to see if it's drastically better than the HPX-250.

I suspect Panasonic is trying hard to make this 1/3" the new standard for ENG that 2/3" camcorder reigned for many years. Unfortunately even in 2014, you can't get rid of those big 2/3" and 22x ENG lenses. Pretty much that's a common thing for the big networks. And trying to change those veteran 2/3" network TV cam ops to 1/3" will be a very difficult thing.

A lot of reality TV uses 1/2 and 1/3 cameras (along with 2/3), but I do agree 2/3 cams are definitely not going away.
 
Personally, I think if 4K takes off, 1/3" will need to disappear. 1/3" is not practical at 4K due to the small photosites and diffraction, which is something like f2.8.
 
The PX270 sales brochure has no mention of variable framerates...could it be? Because that's pretty much a deal breaker.
 
I'd be very surprised if it didn't do VFR. The only brochure I've been able to find so far is labeled "preliminary" and has very little actual information.
 
If there are any, I wonder where the assignable buttons are?

Looking at different screen grabs around the camera, I could not locate them. I could have missed them somewhere. But the only section I haven't seen is the top where the LCD rests…there are more buttons below it where they can possibly be with the playback controls, etc.
