PX270 Power Adapter

Hello Listers,

I want to make an XLR or cigarette lighter adapter for my PX270. My question regards sourcing a plug for the camera end. I have tried quite a collection of different sized, similar style of plugs for fit, and struck out with them all. Does anyone know if the power in port plug on the 270 is unique to Panny? Do the other Panny Handicaps all use the same plug? If not, does anyone have a power extension cord for the 270. I wouldn't mind cutting an adapter up if I could find anything to fit the cam.

TIA

I'm not sure of the connector size. The best I found so far is EIAJ-04 standard but I can't confirm that's the same connector... I will recommend you don't connect directly to the mains on an automobile but rather run an inverter and use the A/C charger to protect the camera. Good Luck!

Thanks Andy,

I've done a fair amount of looking and not found that Panny plug yet. I'll take a look at your suggestion. What I intend to do is cut my charger cable and solder in a 4 pin XLR. My desire is to be able to run the cam off a Bescor brick. The 270 is pretty power hungry so I'd prefer this over buying a slug more batteries for occasional long form work. I most often work off of sticks, so rigging up a brick battery is no big deal, and the capacity of a decent sized brick is reassuring.

I probably wouldn't run a cam directly from a auto outlet. With regard to inverters, I'd be more concerned about charging off of the typical modified sign wave type. I've done this with quite a few chargers, but never feel good about it. The wart type chargers-power supplies seem to run warmer (to me). A pure sign wave inverter would be safe for sure but are much more expensive. Honda IU series generators are pure sign wave also.

I have 2 PX270s and after much research I for out that it uses the same connection as a SonyEX series cameras such as the FS5, the PMW-EX30,PNW-EX1,EX1R,EX3 among others. I have used a Vortex Media 4-Pin XLR Male to Sony 12 VDC Adapter Power Cable to run the cameras off of a external battery with no problem

If you want to use a P-Tap Power Adapter try this;
