OTHER: PX270 - Detail Settings?

So, what detail settings are you guys using? Stock settings were absolute crap for me. So much aliasing and edge artifacting and noise I thought my cameras were broken. With the Detail settings off I get a much cleaner but softer look, definitely more pleasing to say the least. I guess I am so used to working with transcoded RED footage that I was expecting that level of quality from this camera. I am initially underwhelmed but I am assuming I just need to work the settings a bit more to get the most out of it.

I've only been working in AVCI-100 / 24p.

Also, should I be looking at the high sensitivity setting at all? Gotta admit there are a lot of setting options in these guys...

What about you guys?

Hmmm…he seems to be shooting 720p though.

As I suspected, the aliasing and edge artifacting were caused by the default detail settings. They always have them set so high that it really makes the images suffer. I dialed that stuff back and it looks much better.
The camera still seems to show some noise, but less than the HVX, which I base all my comparisons on. Suppose I have to really dig into the settings to maximize image quality, there are A LOT of settings to play with.

The lens is a little disappointing. Strong chromatic aberration when you zoom in all the way. Also, goes out of focus for a sec when you zoom real quick. They kinda dropped the ball on this compared to the Leica lenses on the DVX/HVX.

Jarek,

I have been adjusting detail settings and this is what I came up with:

Master detail 0
Vertical detail 0 or -1
Horiz Detail Freq +2
Vert Detail Freq +1 or +2

I found there is a dance between edge fringing and detail. Higher frequency will yield less edge fringing but go soft. Too high of a detail setting and it gets crispy. These settings are personal, so take with salt and test with your own camera(s).
