PX-270 Tip - External Zoom Controller Sensitivity Adjustment

Hello,

I have some different brands of zoom controllers for use with the PX270 and they all differ a little bit. I called one of the companies and asked about a little bit of lag I was experiencing. They responded and said to open the "Option Menu" and adjust the numbers for zoom control.

I could not find this menu so I called Panasonic. They told me to press the "menu" button and the "LCD Backlight" button at the same time. I did this and the little menu came up. Under the Cam Adjustment there are settings for focus, iris and zoom controller sensitivity. So I was able to dial in the controller with negative numbers decreasing lag and positive numbers increasing lag. Very cool!

Thought I would share as even the Panasonic tech did not know about this.

Thanks for that, I'll want to try that. In particular, I'm interested in the focus settings. I have a Manfrotto focus control and it performed very well with a HPX170. Since switching to the PX270, the performance has been a bit funky, but I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. Maybe this will help.

My Manfrotto zoom control works OK, what brand zoom control are you using?

Dang I wish Panny would communicate better with the customer base. It has always been one of their shortcomings.....including their pro-website.

I started out and still use the Libec $160 units which have great feel. But over time they have become unstable with the zoom travel developing stutters. Very strange but Libec has not officially tested the PX270 so I will probably move to the $150 Manfrotto unit which is also very nice. The Manfrotto zoom had a bit of a delay but that has improved with the menu adjustment. Both are strong units but I think the Manfrotto controller will be more stable.

I finally got around to trying this, but the special hidden menu failed to appear. Are you sure the menu + lcd backlight is the correct keystroke? Is this an added feature to the OS? Any help would be appreciated.

Figured this out finally but it took some digging.

Its actually in the manual, but the instructions are spread out in different place.

The instructions to open the menu are on page 115. And Bassman had it almost right; you press the LCD key first, then the menu key.

The description of the menu parameters are on page 140.

This is so handy indeed for remotes. At first I was thinking to tune up my controllers and that would be that, but this has some interesting potential for adjustment on a scene by scene basis.
