PV-GS12 to use to dump dvx100

Well I might just buy a PV-GS12 for very cheap but I am wondering if I use it to dump dvx100 footage if their are any hang ups in quality? I know it's all digital and I have searched this forum on whether using a cheap camcorder is better than getting a deck but I haven't really gotten a clear answer on what to get. What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting a cheap deck? thanks for helping me out.

No real difference. Your searches on the forum should show that a lot of people do that. I did when I had a DVX.

No need, really, but no harm either. Only real risk, in my opinion, of using the DVX during capture is frying the firewire port by not attaching the end with six pins before the end with four.

but I keep hearing people worrying about wearing out the heads. Is that something that I should be concerned considering I just bought this camera used with at least 180 hours on it...

People seem to talk about that a lot but no one seems to ever report that their heads wore out.

Listen, if the second cam is cheap and it's convenient to leave it near your computer then get it. Make sure its heads are clean if you're going to send tapes back and forth between it and the DVX. I keep a PV-DV401D at my station because it's convenient. (Read the review for some laughs.)

so just to completely be clarified and reassured I can dump dvx on a pos camcorder and the quality will be the same with no hickups.

yes, by doing this you save your dvx heads and keep the hour meter from going up as long as you don't put a tape in the dvx. Just be careful you don't acidently rip out the firewire cuz then ur sol
