Puzzling Tripod Plate Dilemma

Picture this:

(3) x HVX200 cameras (original, non "A" models). (1) X 1030HD Oconnor head.

The plate will only tighten firmly on ONE of the cameras. On the other two, the tripod plate wiggles even though screw is tightened all the way.

I ordered a new screw from OConnor and got the same results. :kali:

Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like the screw is bottoming out on the camera(s).

Throw a washer under the screw head (also underneath the tripod plate) to space it out.

Good idea. I will also try glueing on some rubber strips from an old manfrotto plate.

But the question remains...why is it inconsistently happening in the first place?

I'd say because HVX baseplates are not drilled and thread chased consistently. :D

Sounds like the plate you have just comes with a mount screw that's a little on the longer side. One camera can take it, the others can't.

But yeah, thickening up the rubber would obviously do the same thing. Just use something stiff because you don't want any play between the plate and the camera.

this gets us again into the situation where many hpx170's tripod mounts are off center of the lens... i cant imagine these things should be subject to variable??? if they dont measure up - dont ship them. FIX THEM!

Heh. Just checked mine. It's definitely off center by about 1/4-1/2 an inch.

I'm trying really hard to believe this is going to be in any way shape or form an issue though. Not having much success.

Are you saying there are some HPX170s out there that ARE centered? What kind of wild assed variation is going on in the manufacturing of these things?

EDIT: just checked my DVX100B. Off center to the same side.
