Putting credits on the beginning of the video

Hay guys Is it good idea or good thing to do to put main credits of the people who were involved right on the beginning?

depends. was Tom Hanks one of those people?:)

Nah brah, Jack Black and Johnny Depp was two of them :D But in all seriousness, is it me or do most of the films that have serious messege behand them display the credits on the beginning? Maybe Documentaries :s

credits appear at the beginning because contracts require it. anytime major credits appear at the backend of a union shoot, a waiver was signed by each person who would normally be up front. as an example, P.T. Anderson has everyone sign off on having their credits appear at the end. the sole exception was Hard Eight where everybody but one producer signed a waiver, so it's the only film of his that opens with credits.

movies of old (1970s and previous) usually displayed all credits in the beginning, in grouped listed (not rolling) fashion...depending on your project, it might me appropriate...

and as Zak stated, it's dependent on contract

i always wondered why only key names were listed in older films, but now, everyone is included and credits run incredibly long...

From personal experience, especially if it is a short keep the upfront credits and such to a minimum. These days the audience will eat you alive if you don't get right to the show from the get go.

In narrative it's one of the major things that bothers me, at least on the low end. All sorts of people just starting out plaster names as much a they can on the front. I know they all feel good when they see themselves mentioned on the screen, but it's pretty off putting when no one has heard of you and thus no one cares who you are. I like the standard of putting only the production companies and maybe producer in front, if even that.

From a marketing and audience response perspective, the first part of my answer works. It's off putting if they don't know or care who you are. If you're proud of your work and think it'll get a good response you should want to get to it as fast as possible anyway.

Legend has it it's because George Lucas couldn't pay his people very much and wanted to give them something, so he listed everyone.

It's a bad idea, imo. As a viewer, it waists my time and the ADD in me would like to get on with it. If I wanted to know stats on a flick, I'd google it.
