There are many "flavors" of DV (Digital Video) like DigiBeta, miniDV, DVCPro, etc. I would avoid a long GOP format like HDV if at all possible, intra frame coded formats will work better. Tape isn't the only delivery vehicle. Many labs can push your footage out to a hard drive as well.

What NLE are you using? Have you discussed this with your lab?

so basicaly try to avoid putting film onto tapes, its better to put onto a extrnal or hard drive?
yeah, it was more of, so i know before i do it. but thats for the help

i dont know if telecine firms put super 8 on hdv tapes or not but it would be pointless as the result would look the same as telecined minidv.

Well, aside from the above statement being completely inaccurate, you'll find that HDV is better, but not your best option. As has been mentioned, you can get transfers straight to hard drives - a format with better color sampling will provide additional transfer quality - DVCPRO HD or uncompressed would be great. Check out bonolabs.com for high quality transfer to hard drive. Usually costs a bit more, but may be well worth it depending on your project.

so would you have to gave the telecine lab to put film on a external hard drive or something, or what hard drive could they put it on?

With bonolabs.com, they put it on an external hard drive for you and just ship you the hard drive. You have to put a deposit down on the hard drive(s), part of which is non-refundable, and when you send them back in, you get the refundable portion of your deposit back. So you can either edit straight off their hard drives, or offload onto your own and send theirs back in immediately... whichever you prefer.

so basical you buy a extranal hard drive from them, then they put it on then send to you, but you can send it back a get some what of a refund back?
