I shot DVCPRO50 16:9 project. I have to deliver 4:3 to my broadcast station because they can not handle 16:9. So I put the 16:9 quicktime file in a 4:3 sequence. But now I got aliasing.
I letterboxed it.
(I export the footage 853:480 to a quicktime file and then import that file in 4:3 seq. So it is letterboxed.
I export it 853:480 because does not handle 16:9 otherwise. If you export it 16:9 you get a squeezed 4:3.)
The resizing-exporting/importing-resizing/exporting process may be degrading the image a tad - hence the aliasing. What NLE are you using? (since you mentioned using QT, I am going to guess FCP) You should try squashing the footage directly in the NLE, most have a pretty easy way of doing this. If you are using FCP, nest the anamorphic sequence (16:9) into a 4:3 sequence and FCP will automatically resize it for you to the letterbox format.
I've got the solution. I exported the 16:9 as a self cont quicktime move as a NTSC dv 48 khz movie. It converts it to letterboxed. I teste it and it wordked.
yes.. do it at the first output step and you will be fine.
Just so you know in the future as well, if you are making dvd's you an make them anamorphic and they will automatically letterbox on 4:3 televisions via the dvd player.
