Pushing the 7Q. Quick doc. Comic Con in 4K RAW 60fps and 2K RAW 240fps

I wanted to push the 7Q so I shot some stuff in 4K RAW 60fps and 2K RAW 240fps down at the Long Beach Comic Con. I did a basic color grade in After Effects and pushed it a little green for stylization. The one thing I love about S-Log is the great, neutral skin tones. So good.

As much bitching as we all do about CD (myself included) I am reminded once again that the FS700 + 7Q combo is really MIND BLOWING. 7Q RAW S-Log 2 is SO GOOD. Even the 240fps 2K RAW is so much better than the internal AVCHD (less artifacts, but still some issues, but the color fidelity is insane). I love 4K in that you crop in so much as that's a huge help when you have all these people walking through the background.

It was actually really convenient to switch from 4K 60fps to 2K 240fps HFR as you can just hit the S&Q button and it does it quickly. Very nice. Tomorrow I have a shoot where it will be 4K2HD in 60fps and also HFR, so that will be annoying to have to go into the 7Q menu and wait 3 minutes for the switch, but hey... for the quality it's worth it.

The 7Q worked well for the 2 hours, aside from the usual playback issues and the occasionl needed power cycle.

I love 4K, and probably one of the main reasons I'm getting the FS7 is just to have 4K in 60fps. I sure wish CD can do that with the 7Q. I also wish RAW was compressed because while the 4K2HD is great, nothing is as good as RAW.

Looks great, Gene! The skintones really look great, even with the really flat look (which I think present really nicely here). What sort of lenses were you using? I noticed nice clean transitions to highlights, which I really appreciate (I watched "There Will be Blood" the other day, and while the cinematography is stellar, the purple fringing on highlights really took me out of the film from time to time ---I know PT Anderson called for vintage lenses to make it, but there are some real downsides to some classic lenses).

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Brian, I just used the Canon 24-105mm f4 on a Speed Booster so it was basically an f2.8. I shot most of it wide open. Great lens for run and gun / fast work. And yeah, I love S-Log skin tones. So nice and neutral, not stylized and perfect for the grade.

Very nice !

how did you get your song past vimeos new licence scanning regime? Frame.io could not come soon enough...

FYI, when you switch between FS700 RAW and 4KtoHD mode, the 7Q stores both modes in the memory, so it only takes 3min to load it up the first time. Once two modes are loaded into memory, switching modes only takes about 10sec.
