I'm pretty sure you still have auto focus/iris turned on some how. Maybe by your user settings.
Or it's a broken camera. Let's hope for the first option.
very funny ullanta.
And no Ted the camera is in complete manual mode (nothing auto is on).
oh and this only happens if i am zoomed out past 10.
Anyone else got any ideas?
Is the zoom manual or servo? If you haven't try manual to take the zoom motor out of the equation.
Unless I'm mistaken (always a good disclaimer!), there are only three motorized elements that could cause the sounds and blurring you mention: the zoom in servo mode, the focus in ANY mode (can't be completely manual like the zoom can), and OIS. If you get rid of OIS and Zoom and this still happens, the focus mechanism is suspect. If you get rid of servo zoom and this DOESN't happen, the zoom motor is suspect.
It seems like there may be a sensor problem in a servo mechanism that's causing a motor to "not know where it is" and maybe hunt around a bit; perhaps related to a specific zoom range (dust/grit/excessive wear on some part of a gear)? Maybe this is the dreaded result of manually forcing the zoom when it's set to "servo"?
In any case, sounds to me (unless I'm mistaken) clearly like something that needs to be serviced.
Well technically there is a motor driving the MiniDV deck, too.
There is a switch under the lens in the front. But if you have been manually zooming and not setting that switch to manual, well, I'd imagine that's the root of your problem.
Sure... but I don't think it's connected to any of the optics! That's what I meant by "that could cause the sounds and blurring". The tape mechanism has a number of motors (for loading, moving heads, etc.).
