purple vertical lines on odyssey 7q

I was shooting in 2k RAW tonight for the first time testing out the unit, and I kept getting like purple vertical lines, sometimes yellow and sometimes blue that would randomly keep flashing. They were faint and you could still see the image. Trying to edit now for the first time this footage and see if they show up in the final. any ideas?

Just tried a different cable brand. still same thing. You can probably tell from my posts I am not happy :-P

I have no idea about the odyssey, I'm waiting for mine. But i remember with the pix 240 that same kind of thing you are describing I got too but instead it was a horizontal green line. After doing some trial and error I found it to be the SSD. I'm not saying that's the case but it might be something to consider. Keep us posted, thanks

I know there are known issues with black lines and the FS 700 (I've had them) with the 7q, supposedly they are supposed to be fixed in the new firmware update (tic toc tic toc to quote a director of communications) Sorry Mitch, I had to. I'm not sure if that is related to the issue you are speaking of. I have also had this issue when there was a hard drive read speed issue, have you tried importing the file into something like FCP and view from ram?

Mitch, are they open on the weekends? I sent in a ticket yesterday.

Also, this shouldn't be something to be updated within the firmware... I would hope not.

And a dropped frame to me seems unacceptable, especially if they are hidden with this fringe looking things that you don't know if you had one or not. Scares me. Hopefully this is a really simple fix.

What kind of cables are you using? It could be an issue with the screen, I've got 4-5 cables that all work perfectly for me, but I made sure to check that they were all 3G-SDI rated before buying them. Are yours rated high enough?

can't see that these are 3G cables. I paid from 35€ on for my cables. I would not expect a 5$ cable to work properly at least I would not complain about Convergent-Design if it does not.

Your first port of call should be CD support as they'd be able to diagnose the issue better than anyone here. I will say, however, that the 240fps is allegedly very sensitive to less than perfect cable - understandable given the data rate that's shooting down them: since neither of those cables specifically say they are '3G' I'd be suspicious of them.

I've shot 3 full days with the 7Q so far, 2 of which were 100% 240fps (2.5tb of data, 7.5 hours of real time footage) and I don't appear to have suffered a single dropped frame or odd image artefact - just one frightening moment where switching off the camera before the o7q sent a false record trigger that lead to a ****ed up clip that messed with the SSD file structures - which took about 30mins of sweating to resolve (purely because I was impatient and didn't trust the Odyssey's data recovery routine - it took a while, but did work, so I know to be more patient in future!)

The only issue I have is the unit can often take a while to secure a stable connection to the camera prior to recording (the image blinks on and off) but once recording it is solid -this may be a firmware glitch, or it maybe the cables (I've got two brand new cinecoil 3G cables) - I'm just waiting for the firmware update to see if this changes things before investigating further.

Please feel free to send an email to Dan Keaton as well as the main support ticket address. Dan's information for this is located on the support page I noted. Although we don't officially list weekend support, Dan is a machine when it comes to customer support and will try to reach out when he can.
