Do I need to update the firmware or will the camera be all set?

Anything specific I should know?

It depends on how long the camera's been on the shelf. The current firmware version is 2.1.1, which came out in November 2011. If you need it, you can download it from Canon here. It's pretty easy to install, again, if you need to.

You should know that if buying new buy from a reputable source. You have at least two right there in NY with B&H and Adorama. I have also bought from Circuit City and On-One. All are great. I mention this because about three cameras ago when I bought the Nikon D300, it's shutter went to Sh_t in twenty minutes. It was nice to call B&H and have another on the way before the day was out.

nope, i just know i'm leaning towards selling it, but haven't listed it yet. got a battery grip and two extra batteries to go with it. and original box/accessories etc.... have to look into what the going rate for that kinda package is.
 
dont upgrade the firmware if you plan on running magic lantern on it or at least wait until the unified version is released
