GH2 Purchased a GH2 this weekend!

Yes, I have something similar to that! I'm just concerned about power right now. I may have to bite the bullet and pick up two more OEM batteries for the time being.

Yes, stick with the OEM batteries. I had 2 Wasabi batteries for the GH2 and neither EVER gave me 50% of the runtime I got with OEM batteries. They also give NO WARNING WHATSOEVER when they rundown. The camera goes dead and you usually lost the last "take" if you were recording (could lose everything on the card if the FAT gets scrambled).

I also had 2 Wasabi batteries for an Olympus E-P3. One died after the 4th charge cycle and the other swelled up inside the camera at about the same time.

External monitors are best solution to batteries, they save you alot of camera battery time when used instead of the on camera articulating monitor, which is the culprit in most of these cameras battery consumption.

I have used 3rd party batteries on the 5D I shoot on sometimes, and even when it dies the last take still gets saved. Must be the way the data is saved on the GH-2. I'm looking into picking up two more OEM batteries, which I think would take me through the day?

I used two when I had GH2's, Sanity 5 and FlowMotion 2.02. FlowMotion is so stable I see no reason to look for anything more conservative. I saw little difference between the two I used, but both gave me a bit clearer rendition of motion than did the stock firmware. Both were stable on my gear.

The process is so simple you should have no problems as long as you follow the instructions, AND USE A FRESH CHARGED OEM BATTERY when you do. One guy on this site had a 3rd party battery "die" in the middle of the process and totally "bricked" his GH2. Panasonic repair had to replace the mainboard on his camera to the tune of over $200 if I remember correctly
.

If your doing weddings, I see no reason to hack the camera, I guarantee unless the bride or groom is a pixel peeper they will not notice the difference. However I do agree whole hearted that when you do decide to hack the cam, Flowmotion 2.02 is the only way to go. Driftwood has some great hacks, but I didn't have the reliability as I do with Flowmotion, maybe it was my card, IDK.

Hope these help some, The second link may be the way to go for a full day with no worries.
One thing to remember is the gamma shift when record is pressed, set up your profile by making changes, then press record to see how it effects the image. It's a pain, but it's frustrating to make a profile only to get a completely different image when you hit record. Its my #1 complaint about the gh2.

Once I do hack, I'm considering a more conservative hack to start with.

FlowMotion has a High and Low bit-rate setting, so you can get maximum performance in High mode or moderate performance in Low mode. ( the Low mode works with just about any Class 10 card )

Thanks very much! I appreciate all the help! I've actually got a few websites bookmarked to program some "looks" into my camera this week. I generally shoot with guys using the 5D or 60D, and will have the "Canon look" programmed for one, and probably a more flat look programmed for another. The gamma shift is something I noticed and was a big pain. I noticed it more in-doors with lower light and higher ISO...

And for weddings I'll be shooting without the hack, as you mentioned, it won't make a big difference in my final product for an event like that. I'll shoot with the hack for any narrative stuff I end up doing.

Thanks again for the links as well!

I know this has probably been covered before, but I'd love any suggestions on lessening the gamma shift on the LCD and EVF. Thanks for any help!

I don't remember the exact setting, but you want to turn on "Constant Preview" ( or something like this ) in the camera settings.

For several years, Ive been pounding my head against the wall due to the gamma shift, and your saying all I've had to do was turn on constant preview to eliminate the color shift when pressing record??
