Purchase plan

Right now raising funds to get my HVX 200A From Spec-Comm

I sold my VX2100 about 4months ago
Getting ready to sell my imac 20" white version I'm thinking $950 (is that fair price)
The plan with my friend is to pay 1/2 down ($3000) and he will put the
rest on his card. After which I would pay him off within a good time frame.

My question, does this sound feasible to you all?
If yes what items should I focus on after the HVX purchase?

I was thinking:

  • Duel systems adaptor
  • Arlington Camera Professional Media Case for P2 cards http://tinyurl.com/6xbhom
  • Tripod Miller Legs / Bogen head
  • Kata DVG-51 Camcorder Guard
  • A few filters for matte box

Let me know your thoughts... What would you add or remove from my list of necessities for my new HVX.

All in all expect to be paying aroun 7-8K (maybe more) for basic stuff. That includes:
camera - 5K
P2 card - 1K or more (Not sure if one still comes with the cam)
Case (either hard or backpack) - 100 -200
Tripod (legs and head) - 800 on low end, 1500 on mid range.
Extra batteries (3) - 200
Mic - anywhere from 180 to over 1K

That still doesn't include a computer to edit and ingest P2 cards. You are looking at 1-2K there. And I still haven't touched on lights, plus if you are looking into 35mm adaptors than add another 5k for all the stuff needed there.

I don't mean to throw out all these numbers to scare you but breaking into P2 is expensive. A basic set-up will run you into 7K range. You can go significantly higher.

I have a macbook pro

The package I am buying comes with 2 16gig cards

I am doing my best to convince Andrew to throw in the extended life battery

I also plan as a start to pick up the Rode KTG 2

I already own the EW100 wireless Sennheiser

I have a kata bag that I have been using (it carries everything)

The only other bag I am considering is Pelican case from either (Abel Cine / B&H /Zacuto).

Let me know your thoughts

that pelican case just to hold p2 cards is OVERKILL. p2 cards come in a plastic case and are pretty rugged. unless you have several, i can see that case being as much a pain as a benefit.

- you'll do well to look into a small external monitor.
- you mention "a few filters for mattebox" but you dont mention a mattebox. the camera doesnt come with one.

what kind of work do you plan to do? that has a lot to do with what accessories you'll need.

I would say a small nebtek monitor should be top on your list. scrap the card cases, they will probably never leave the camera anyways. Scrap the matt box too for now and get a 1k arri softbox instead. You can at least do interviews with the softbox and a reflector board. Get the DVXuser batteries they are the best price deal and you should have 3 minimum.
