Pulling the trigger. Buying a DVX100B tomorrow!

This is a very interesting discussion; as I'm also looking around for some accessoires (I plan to purchase a DVX100B but want to do all of my research first). I'm a bit new to all this, so what exactly is a ball-balance and what does it do?

Alpha54,

We also did a lot of research (Canon, JVC, Sony, Panasonic) before deciding on Panasonic. We were also not sure whether to go with the HVX200 or the DVX100B.

This forum was a huge help and all of the members that responded were of great help. We decided on the DVX100B for budgetary reasons and also because this is the first 'Pro' camera for JaronE and we wanted to get some other gear.

Regarding the tripod head and legs, we really liked the stability of the 3246 legs (it is a two section tripod with tandem legs and a geared center column). The tripod doesn't have the ball leveler but you can add one on for about $60.

We got a great education about tripods when we went to EVS in L.A. As far as I know, the ball leveler is used to level the head without having to use the tripod legs.

Good luck with your research.

Thanks for your reply, the more I hear about, the more convinced I am that the 3246 legs with the 503 head would be perfect for me. Problem is, I don't know any shops here in Stockholm that specialise in video equipment; so I really don't think I'll get a chance to ever try the tripod. Ordering online is more or less the only choice I have, so the more advice I can get the better! :)

Has anyone purchased from profeel? It is listed in this forum as an unauthorized dealer, but I got an email reply from their sales staff explaining that their parent company nuhome electronics is an authorized dealer and that Panasonic has been honoring the rebate. They also advertise the full one year manufacture's warranty. I'm close to purchasing the 100b also and the camcorder is around $2700 after rebate at profeel. They also have good rellerratings. Higher than B&H. Are they for real or a bad idea?

*video,

We researched the equipment very well and then looked for an authorized dealer within 3 hours drive. Luckily, we live near L.A., so there were a lot of good companies where we could go see and demo the products.

We looked into buying on-line, but really wanted to get 'hands on' with the product(s) first. There have also been some real good threads in this forum regarding buying on-line and the 'gray' market.

We also got a real good education at EVS and the staff there spent a lot of time with us. We could have got a better price elsewhere, but I wanted to honor their time and effort with a purchase from them.

The price you have been quoted is incredible! I would sure check out this company and their parent company very well first. I don't know anything about them. Maybe someone else on this forum can help.

Good luck with your research and your final decision. Then shoot, shoot, shoot!
