newbie question here

eventually i hope to be working with an hvx w/m2 and some sort of steadicam rig. i worry about keeping focus as i'm terrible with camera movement so i want to get better at it. any hints, tips, suggestions on technique, equipment, prayers etc~?

yeah, do a search for the extended post HAAKON wrote. He did a short that has been well received (at least the cuts and stills we've all seen) with the HVX, M2, and Steadicam Flyer . . . will probably answer most of your questions.

17" panasonic monitor, wireless focus system, alot of cable, and a cable wrangler.. Sit ur 1st AC at the monitor, and say keep it in focus! Or if he's good a 1st AC he can just follow the steadicam OP with the wireless, and pull focus the old fashion way... Good thing is, if its soft, you can erase the clip :-)

good luck..

Yeah, or if he's going to go wireless anyway, might as well transmit the picture too -- that way nobody trips over the wire. And, yep I know some people still trail cable but not if theres ANY OTHER WAY.

Deleting the clip isn't the problem, it's the multiple takes, or as is the case with many professional actors, often the first take ends up being the best . . . be a shame if wasn't in focus, no?
