ptool and sd card questions

First thing first: I am trying to use ptool to create a bin file for the Reliable In-Camera Playback Patch. I load the GH__132.bin file, click the green "J" button at the bottom which loads in the settings for the patch (all three boxes are checked at the top of ptools window), then click "Save Settings" and I call it GH__137.bin which is higher than the GH__136.bin file I already have, which I downloaded from a site on the internet (I didn't actually create it in ptools myself). It appears to create the file just fine but it doesn't show up in the folder at all. The funny thing is, the next time I use ptool and load a firmware, GH1__137.bin is listed, but it has a gold padlock next to the file icon. That is the only proof that the file even exists since I can't see the file any other way. What is going on?

Second: I am using a patch (the GH__136.bin file mentioned above) in my GH1 already which is a hybrid of the Reliable patch. It maxes out at like 44 mb/s bitrate, so it doesn't push the camera too hard, but shooting a wide shot outside in the bright sun for too long will invariably give me the card-write speed error message and shut the camera down. I always use Class 10 32gb cards, but I recently bought a SanDisk Exteme 45 mb/s Class 10 card thinking a better card would solve the problem. It doesn't. But from what I read in the description for these patches I get the impression that this card should be plenty fast. Still, I would like to try the actual Reliable patch to make doubly sure, which as I said first I am having trouble creating.

Maybe this should have been two separate threads but they both are parts of the same problem I am having. Anyone have any ideas for me?

I figured out the ptool saving problem. I have the ptool folder and program in my Program Files(x86) directory and I couldn't save the new firmware file to the same directory. I still am surprised I get card write speed errors as often as I do with the card I am using. I haven't tried this new firmware yet. Hopefully it will make the errors a bit more infrequent.

Unless your Class 10 SD cards are defective, they should work without error on the GH1. It's more likely that the modified patch you're using is unstable in bright, high-contrast situations. If you need a patch with higher bitrate than the Reliable In-Camera Playback Patch, I'd suggest trying the Blackout-Powell Patch, linked in my signature below.

Thanks. I may give that a try. I loaded the Reliable patch and shot the Star Chart Bars Full 600dpi.png image off my computer screen. The modified patch I had shut down after a few seconds but the Reliable patch recorded for over 30 seconds before I stopped the recording myself. But like you said, I would expect my memory cards, which all work just fine, to be able to hold up. Oh well. I will try this patch in real world conditions to be sure, but I believe this will be a good compromise. The Blackout-Powell may end up trumping it , though, which would be an even better compromise.
