PSF output on F3 ? Is 25P PSF?

Does anyone know if 25P out from the F3 - either HD SDI A or SDI Out - is PSF or true progressive ?

I was under the impression that 25P is PSF - on the status menu it does say 25P PSF - but recently I shot 23.97 in NTSC mode and the HDMI out to a DP4 does not work unless the output from the HDMI or SDI out is switched to 59.94i. It seems that HDMI cannot carry a PSF signal. If that is so it would seem that in 25P as the HDMi output carries the signal it would not be PSF ?

I have previously set the Kipro mini to PSF input with 25P- it records fine but I am wondering if it should be set to Normal input?

The way I understood it, all the progressive modes on the F3 were output as PsF. Maybe the reason why 23.97PsF doesn't work with HDMI is because of the 2-3 pull-down from 59.94i? Anyway, since F3 firmware 1.1, you can monitor down HDMI by setting the output to 59.94i and then take the 23.97PsF from the HD-SDI A socket which will remain true PsF.

The data down an HD-SDI cable at 25PsF looks the same as 50i but with two identical fields recorded simultaneously. Therefore, all you're doing by switching the KiPro mini input between Normal and PsF is changing the file field dominance flag. Normal = upper field dominance and PsF = No field dominance.

So to answer your question, if you want 25P you should set the KiPro mini to PsF. Don't worry too much if it's set incorrectly as I believe you can also change the field dominance flag with software later!
