PSA - School Project

That is a link to a Public Service Announcement. My group in a video class I'm taking was assigned to do this. No dolly was available, so every shot is pretty much handheld (this was probably my biggest problem with the whole thing). Lighting was not available either, but I think we found a decent location.

I didn't think the sound was good at all. The voice was hard to hear so yeah. That... kinda sucked. Uhh... I don't know, I didn't really have much of a problem with it besides that. I'm sure you got an A+ for a school project, but I don't think It's something I'd call a finished product.

Yeah, it's not 100% finished yet. I wanted to get some feedback before I called it done. It's not due for about another week or two. I lowered the volume of the music a bit, and I'm working on trying to clean up the voice over.

Not sure what's wrong with the link. Every once in a while you have to close the window and click it again for it to work. Sometimes the page is blank and you only get the audio if anything.

Well..I think it was a good try. However, PSA tend to be short, thought provoking, and mildly shocking. I think I my patience was strained with the overall length of the project. I would have to agree with others that the sound was pretty bad. Perhaps you might create a montage that shifts from the student being currently stressed and flashbacks to specific incidents where he felt that he was not treated well, socially ostracized, or to whatever caused him to become emotionally unglued. I suggest you look at the Ad Council's webpage for good examples. PSA's are an art form.

Yes, PSAs on TV are short, but the ones assigned to the class are 5 minutes on average. It's going to be put into a festival that centers around PSAs that are generally around the length of 5-10 minutes. I saw a DVD of the previous festival, and they were all long and drawn out. That's why I made mine half the length of the average PSA from last years festival. I actually had to pull a couple strings to be able to cut down the length and even to use my own camera and editing software (equipment is generally regulated in some way).

you need to work on it alot. the sound sucked and you need more imagery. some shot last to long on things that shouldnt be there.

I just got done editing the audio. I'll be posting the new version tomorrow night (Oct 17). The VO was still recorded on a cheap mic, but after editing it, it's a LOT clearer and much easier to understand. Thanks for the pointers, guys.
