PS3 delayed eight months

Surprised nobody's brought this up yet. Sony was supposed to launch the PS3 this Spring, but they just announced that there are problems with the blu-ray drive and they won't be releasing it until November.

Sony only just officially announced this delay? A November release has been rumored for so long in the gaming community i guess I already accepted it as fact.

But still the fact that its not just a Blu-ray player but a highly anticipated next gen game console....HD-DVD What? That format really missed the boat when it lost inclusion in the Xbox 360 at launch.

Still if it gets enough Studio support I'm sure it can thrive.

I guess I'm the only Nintendo fanboy holding out for Revolution?

I'm totally looking forward to this too. Not only is it the cheapest of the consoles (Expected to be at or slightly less than $200) but the ability to have any game that's appeared on any Nintendo console with a few button presses. Can i get a Hell Yea....

I eagerly await the return of Pong! :cheesy:

Honestly. I think the 360 is pretty awesome... I used to be Sony for life... but switched to the X-Box for Halo, and Halo 2. I will eventually get a 360, but I am waiting to see what other add-on's they come out with and if they drop the price.

First off, I think Microsoft messed up big time for two reasons:

A. distrbution - my roommate wants to buy a 360 and has not been able to get one at a store. There are none in the greater Madison area. this is retarded being that it is what ... 4 months?

B. Not using HD-DVDs - as you guys probably know, the more things that use a medium, the lower the price goes, so if movies and PS3 games are on Blu-Ray, then it's better for us.

That's VERY cool! I didn't know this. Is there a fee for the older games?

Vive la Revolution!
Hell yeah!

The revolution looks okay... that controller freaks me out, but I do like the idea of being able to play ALL my old games. I've still got all my old consoled and games, except my original NES. :crybaby:

I waited on the Game Cube until it was $100 and came with a game. I'll probably do the same for the Revolution.

I keep thinking about Contra, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Exicte Bike, California Games...oh man...I don't know if I can wait, need to go hit up the pawn shops!

Are the PS3s backward compatible? can i play PS2 games on it?

Backwards compatible to PS1 last i heard.

And as for the Revolution let me clarify a bit. All the old games will be offered as downloads on Nintendo's online network. You dl the games to a built in harddrive in the revolution. Yes there will be a fee but i do not believe it is officially fixed yet but the highest I've heard is 20 dollars. Although i also remember reading some rumor about a netflix kind of subscription service. And given the massive catalog we're talking about here that would be awesome.

I'll eventually get an Xbox 360 cause i do want to play Halo 3. But i'll probably do what i did with the current xbox and wait till i can pick up a used one for under a hundred bucks on ebay.

The PS3 i imagine will become a centerpiece of my home entertainment center. Much like the ps2 did years ago.

Oh wow, I heard that this part swaps out for other components that hold the old cartridges.

Of course, looking at it now I realize that the white portion is just a stand.

Somehow, I find myself less excited. But still very curious; and more likely than not, I'll pick one up.

its total backwards compatiable. revolution is entire library that nintendo ever made compatible. viva la revolution!

I AM BUYING THAT CONSOLE EITHER WAY, BECAUSE OF METAL GEAR SOLID! GREATEST GAME EVER (Next to Ocarina of Time, of course!).

I sound like such a nerd. Those are really the only games I play!

Mario 64!! YES! I'm looking forward to all the old Mario and Zelda games.

I recently bought the Ocrina of Time for GameCube... in fact, I think I'll go start it right now.

Well, Sony just announced the price of the PS3, which has people in an uproar. I was listening the radio and economists are saying that the PS3 has to sell 20 million units before mass production can turn a profit. Also, some are saying that Sonys future relays heavily on the adoptance of Blu Ray as the HD standard for DVD's and the royalties they would earn from it, which would be in the billions.

yeah the ps3 $600 pricetag is below the $800 that was rumored a couple months ago when this thread first started, but its still way too high. they also cut out some of the tech options from it too.

i dont know, i still think microsoft is gonna end up playing this one smarter. christmas comes around and billy wants a new game system, which one is mommy gonna buy: $600 or $300? hmmmm. add to that its been available for 9 mos or so, and its basically the ps2 and xbox strategy flipped.

and then theres wii for kiddies and apparently grandparents. that controller is pretty killer tho!
