FS7: Proxies on sd card? Technically possible?

Just this thought emerged in my mind. Is it possible that SD card slot could be used for recording proxies? So Sony some time down the line could add this capability in firmware update?

Thanks!

You'd be a lot more likely to get proxy recording and full-res recording on the same card -- like the F55 does.

Also interesting - the usb port the wifi uses is apparently capable of video proxies. Not with the included wifi adapter, mind you - but with the CBK-WA100. But that means technically the USB port can receive and process video data, somehow. I've toyed with the idea of getting a CBK-WA100 so I can deconstruct the protocol. But it's far from the top of my list.

This is nice but will lock you out from proper dual recording- if card where you're recording full signal will fail you'll end up only with proxies. The whole idea occurred to me when I saw preview of C300II - it has an SD card slot only for proxies besides two CFAST slots.

That's interesting and good idea to look into that direction instead! How would you tackle deconstructing that protocol? (you can talk technical to me, I'm after CS). I may get my hands on CBK-WA100 some time.

By placing a hardware USB analyzer in the middle between the camera and the CBK-WA100 and reading the stream. Then taking the CBK100 away, and programing something like a Pic32 microprocessor to emulate the CBK-WA100.

This is not a concern I share. I've been shooting on SxS cards since 2007 and XQD cards for a couple of years and have never once had a glitch or loss of files, so I wouldn't use dual record even if I had it. On the other hand, having 4K files and HD proxies on the same card has come in very handy on some documentary shoots. One 30-day shoot in particular had to have a highlights video edited overnight from a different hotel room every day for CBS.com and if the 4K files had to be used, it would not have been possible. But back in LA, they needed the 4K files for the real edit. Two different files, with matching names, TC, and other metadata for two different uses. A very powerful feature.

Not sure what you are talking about because if proxies were recorded on the same card with the original footage as in F55, you could still use the other slot to do exactly the same thing.

Wait, I've missed that Doug's words "same card". If that it's fantastic feature. It would save me a ton of time in post: cut HD, export with 4K without transcoding for proxies.
James, ig I'll get hold of CBK-WA100 I will try to do it (at least reading protocols, rest we could colaborate on)
