Protect Your Rig!

Hello all.

I've ran into a slight problem. I purchased a Flight case about 6 months ago for house and protect my rig during transit. On my last soon, the flight case broke. Now I'm on the hunt for something to house my rig on a budget (I mean, "Im skint", so less than £30).

Preferably I want to keep the rig intact, and I've been thinking about getting a Flight Case off eBay, but Im still now sure.

How do others keep their rig safe?

I use a Pelican 1600, but I take the rig apart before I pack it. It's much more efficient for storage that way, and each piece is nicely padded and protected.

Well, you've bought one cheap case already and it broke. You're looking at buying a second to replace it. After two or three... you've pretty much bought a Pelican.

Yeh, but my finances dont stand to buy a pelican at the moment, so I want something cheap and cheerful that will do me for one or two transits (:

How about a cardboard box?
Seriously though, do you really want to get a case that may not make it through to your destination with you livelihood intact?

You asked what we were using, so we are just telling you. I use Storm Cases. Yes they cost more than a cardboard box, but they are protecting thousands of dollars in gear which I use to earn a living with.

Good luck with your quest!

I know what it is! I've used that so far, with some foam cut in it and it worked like a charme. It's never "built-like-a-tank" as the Pelican cases, but it works and protect your equipment to a certain point.

A broken down rig should be virtual indestructible so any old holdall ?

I have a wheelie case rejected by my friends daughter - being pink it is not attractive to thieves

Im a fan of ReallyUsefulBoxes as the poor mans Peli but would not fly with them..

How about a "used" Pelican case? Check out used storm and Hardigg cases too. I have foound some really good Hardigg cases in the past for REALLY cheap on Fleabay.

This seems obvious; use the original packaging the cam came in. It shipped half way around the world in it. Dang, that was thrown away with the baby and the bathwater.
