Prores

When I export a FCP project in prores 422 or prores 422 HQ mov file
the overal brightness of the footage decreases significantly (left piccture) and the colours seem over-saturated (in FCP timeline also prores it looks fine, right picture). Is this normal? When outputting it in for instance in a more compressed codec like H.264 the colours become more like what I see in the canvas however the resolution suffers. So I have to colour correct always when using any prores taste?????

edit : I discovered that if I choose "Apple prores" from the "share" menu within FCP it looks like the canvas so ok. So what is the difference between "prores from share menu" and "prores from export/using quicktime conversion" menu ??????????

I think it has more to do with FCP Gamma, Mac Gamma and PC gamma variance of 1.8 vs. 2.2.
As in your Quicktime vs. FCP will show different gamma in the viewer, depending on version of OS X, and version of FinalCut Pro.
It sounds like you're using FCP7.

I think Apple fixed that gamma problem in snow leapard moreover it is ok when using share but not when using export/qt conversion (same imac, same OS, same source footage) !!! When doing it via compress it is also ok. I think there is a bug in the "export/qt conversion" menu in FCP.
