prores vs MPEG4 in mov

When i export a project as prores in a move file the colour are way to over-saturated compared to when I export the project as MPEG4 in a mov file (this footage looks the same as on the FC timeline). However in prores I have more detail. So what is causing the colours getting oversaturated in pro-res and how can I prevent this??

with kind regards

I just noticed I have both versions on my Imac. When I click on a mov file in the viewfinder the Mac always open the file in QT 7. What is the difference between those 2 versions of QT ? Which one should I use?

By the way the setting "gamma correction" in the export menu does not change anything if I put it on "none" or "autmatic" !!

QT 7 is far more accurate at displaying colour, however QT 10 uses your computers graphics card for accelerated playback. In general if you actually want to see how something looks use QT 7, if you just want to quickly watch something then QT 10, although unless you have a slow computer or are trying to playback 2K (or more...) you probably wanna just stick with QT 7.

I can only find "enable FCS color compatibility" and it it checked. I can not find anything about gamma correction in QT (version 7.6.6) preferences !!!!

Open QT 7 player, and go to the preferences section.

There is a FCP gamma correction checkbox there.
