Is editing ProRes over FW800 on a recent gen. iMac doable?

More so is it possible to EDIT ProRes on a dual G5? I'm not talking about capturing to ProRes but just being able to edit the transcoded footage.

I'm still working on a G5 and FCS1 using AIC which seems to be fine but we have a project coming up this summer and would possibly like to go the ProRes route.
