ProRes and Windows

I had to reinstall Windows 10 and now realized I can't download QuickTime. Apple disabled it for Windows.

How do I play projects that have ProRes files? Adobe premiere keeps giving me a codec error.

I have a black magic camera and everything I shot for a year has been in ProRes. Please help!!

After the 12.5.1 update on Windows machines, you will no longer need to have Quicktime installed if you want to decode ProRes *.mov files.

I do not know about the dynamic linking aspects but Google does.

Succes!

Not succes! I can't use Adobe after effects, Adobe Audition. Use any of my plug in effects that I bought for premier. I need premiere. You are saying I can't use ProRes at all on windows even to playback my timeline!!?

Can I transcode ProRes to dnxhd on a windows or do I need a Mac?

Unless your video must be delivered in ProRes there are good alternatives for ProRes.

DNxHD and DNxHR are alternatives but also intra-frame H.264 or Cineform can give you comparable quality.

not sure I'm willing to risk a security issue on my 2,000 dollar desktop pc

Just remove file associations with Quicktime Player in Windows and all your browsers. The problem is with playing mov files from the internet with Quicktime Player. I have Quicktime running fine on my editing PC. Issue blown out of proportion.

Maybe I wasn't clear from the beginning. I have a black magic camera that shoots in ProRes. 4 different versions. HQ, 422 regular, LT and proxy. The only other format is DNXHD but the manual doesn't list if it's HQ or what it is. I don't even have multiple options for DNXHD like I do for ProRes. And the other issue is I used to have a Mac and all my timelines and footage are in ProRes. I can't play a single premiere project.

I'm running Windows 10 and using the native ProRes clips from my Mini for my online. Works just fine, I can even render to ProRes from Nuke and Natron when doing VFX. If you're that worried about security on your $2000 machine, it probably shouldn't even be on the internet.

And you are using premiere?

To protect my Windows computers from Internet garbage I run two programs that have little impact on my computer's performance and are highly recommended apps...

PC Magazine : Webroot Secure Anyware Review

PC Magazine : Malwarebytes 3.0 Review

I run the PAID version of Malwarebytes which offers real-time support. ( I've been using this for more than 5 years now )

Both apps are great. ( webroot can also protect smartphones and tablets )
