GH2 Proper way to import into Premiere Pro?

Hey guys, I recently hacked my GH2 with the Orion V4B hack, and I am having difficulty importing into Premiere Pro. I normally used FCP but decided and didn't have any problems but when I tried Premiere Pro I couldn't get the files from my SD Card to Premiere Pro.

What is the proper way to import them, for best quality? Any insight is appreciated, Thanks!

I use P.P on Windows.
I just drag and drop the files onto the resources window in the upper left where your clips and folders and sequences show.
IT takes P.P a moment to "load" them, but then they are ready to go.

I'm using CS6 and really like the Media Browser window. You can play clips even set in and out points then right click to import to your project.

I copy the entire directory structure of the SDHC cards on to an 'archive' disk. I then drag and drop the PRIVATE level folder of the archive image onto the media area of Premiere Pro. After some amount of chewing, the MTS files appear as files in that folder. Once I have the MTS folder, I usually drop the clips into a AVCHD 23... fps time line, and then start to work. Since I have a 'slow' machine (will be upgrading shortly...) I have come to expect some hesitations and haltings, but CS6 was an improvement over CS5, and CS4 was abysmal for AVCHD...

Any sort of filtering or processing requires that I render the work area to have some sort of 'reasonable' playback.

But I've used After Effects for years, so that is nothing new.

I'm pretty sure most of this sort of problem is due to the advanced age of my computer hardware relative to 'how things work now'.

Thanks I think I got it now, I tried what you said, by dragging the Private folder into a folder I created on my desktop. Seems to be working much better.

Now I have a separate question about the GH2 itself, I pressed the record button and let it sit and record just so I could see the file size of a long shot and it stopped at 3 minutes and 53 seconds, I tried it again and it stopped at the same exact time. Is there a way to record for a longer period of time without stopping?

I have not had the GH-1 'stop' at some given point. Although I mostly shoot 'short' clips, I believe I have shot something that is longer than 3 or 4 minutes. I recall there being some time limit for cameras in Europe (PAL version), where 30 minutes is the max shooting time, which seems stupid to me... but I don't believe the US versions, that is the NTSC, versions have this limit.

I think this is either an issue with the hack itself or the level of memory card you are using. Some of the higher bit rate hacks do not span over multiple clips. Something to do with the FAT32 format being used for recording. You might be better off asking at Personal-view.com if you don't get the the right answer here.

Yes, I should clarify... I have not hacked my GH-1... so that is one difference. With the increased data rate, FAT 32 should have a 4GB file size limit. FAT16 was 2GB. As for how the clips are 'broken up' by the camera firmware... don't know...

But even at 100 Mbits/s, for 3 minutes, that ends up being about 2GB. I don't know what the bit rate is for the hack, but there is also the issue of the SDHC card's max 'continuous' rate... which I don't know either...

Copying the entire PRIVATE folder to your hard drive, and then browsing using the MEDIA BROWSER window in Premiere Pro is the most bullet-proof way to import your clips.
