Proper Tape

Hi All.

I am getting a little confused on the DV Tape issue. Somwhere on the forum was a good bit of info but in doing a search I can no longer find it. I believe that thread recommended the DVM63MQ for use in the 100A. I had ordered some of these from Tapestockonline. Did I buy the correct tapes?

Also - the 100A prefers dry lube correct?

Thanks!

Re: Proper Tape

ok, im not going to start up this subject again either, we all talked about it at quite some length before, but i talked to my vender about this and he said he never heard of that (the dry tapes being the preferred ones for the DVX specifically).

i never read anything like that in the manual that came with the camera. not saying i dont believe you guys but where did this all start anyhow?

maybe if you used only wet tapes (as i am sure many people on this forum have, myself included) then you would need to run the head cleaner more often, compared to dry tape users, but i would think if this was a recommended tape that it would at least be posted somewhere officially instead of in rumorings...

this stuff just bugs me because now i dont know whether i need to invest in all new DRY tapes now or what? and what is the correct, safe procedure to go about changing to dry (sounds like a deodorant commercial now) since im all in a panic now about killing my beloved camera with

THE SECRET OF THE DREADED WET TAPE!

hmmm?

Re: Proper Tape

Any ideas as to where to buy those MQ tapes in Europe ? Maybe they have a different name here in PAL-land ? The only ones I've been able to find so far are DVM60-ME...

Thanks in advance for any tips you might have...

And... I hate to ask this but... Are those tapes identical everywhere ? In other words, if I mail-order MQ tapes from the U.S., won't I receive NTSC-formatted tapes that I won't be able to use ? And if not, is there any reason te believe that the tapes could be damaged when going through X-ray machines or God knows what during customs checks related to international shipping ?

Thanks also for your advice on that. ;)

Re: Proper Tape

its not a good idea to take the tapes through any sort of electromagnetic instrument, as the tapes recod electromagnetic info , and could be damaged, or ruin the footage. but plenty of tapes make it through ok. i just would avoid it if at all possible. ..tapes dont come as an ntsc or pal formatted tape. its just tape. the cam records the info on there.
