Letus: sounds like "lettuce" or "lead us"?

Brevis: rhymes with "crevice" or "leave us"?

Inquiring minds want to know...:cheesy:

Letus is pronounced "Lead us". I pronounced it lettuce all of the time and
I felt really stupid when someone on the other end of the conversation said it was "lead us". Oh well. As for the Brevis, I don't know the pronunciation.

Lettuce. Crevice.

Although, my mind still wants to call the Letus "lead us". Have no idea why, but that's the way my mind reads the spelling (even though it's wrong).

Fun thread:grin:

EDIT: Maybe this is just a fun thread cause I'm hammered right now:(

This is from Hien, himself:

Letus,
pronounced "Layh-tus" is our family name Le Tu Hien and Le Tu Quyen
(in our culture, family name is first, then middle name, then first
name).

All this time I was pronouncing it LEE TUS.

I heard the Brevis is pronounced BREE VIS...but I dunno for sure.

Oh, I thought its Grey-Wihzz, Let-us, Brave-Whizz and Re-Drock.

....what do you call that indian Cine-DOF adapter?

Indy-Sin-e-Dow?

:D Frank

Hehe, Re-drock is close...but you'll find it's actually Ree-drock, like Reebok. Awhile back, Brian Valente letus know that the 35mil adaptor idea came to him while watching Dee Brown pump up his er, pumps, during the '91 dunk comp.

Do I get banned now?

Ok, so I think I've got Brevis squared away ("crevice"), but let's go over this Letus thing once again:

Is it "Lay-tuss" like "latest" without the t at the end, "Lie-tuss" like "light us" (which would be really cool if you think about it for a second), "Lay-toos" which rhymes with "gray goose", or "Lie-toos" which rhymes with "fly goose"? Or something else altogether?

I tell you I'm not gonna be able to sleep until I know the answer : ) Good thing it's 9 AM... :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Hahaha, you gotta love this thread, just the laugh I needed this morning!

Maybe this could be stuck as a permanent post once it's all sorted out? ;-)

i always called my letus35A a "lettuce".... i thought the name came from the cries of poor indie film makers "LET US THRITY FIVE!!!!!!!!! OH PLEASE WONT YOU LET US!!!!!!!!!!!"
hence the product will "letus" use 35mm lenses...... A?

Been wondering myself how or why these semi home brew transitioning to real after market companies coming out of these boards came up with some of their names and how to pronounce them. Having worked in advertising most of my life and actually done the back and forth you guys are doing here is one of the fun parts of the job. Yeah, put as many of these names you can think of in one or two sentences, then translate it into something simple like spanish to see what happens. I always thought they were pronounced like Brevis and Butthead put Letus in the salad. No harm done. But that "carrion" monitor name/concept siniarch has might want to be changed a little?

I actually bought the SGpro not for the picture quality that I admired, but because on set I wouldn't have any troubles telling people what it is and how it's pronounced.

Good thing it just happened to be my favorite of the bunch, too.
