Promo Video for Dance Studio (Nashville)

awesome work...

I noticed interlacing in a lot of shots.

where did you learn how to use after effects? (I'm just learning right now, and I have no idea what to do)

That rocked!

Every dance school is going to want one of these.

What did you use for the lighting steaks effect? Those were very cool.

Lot of Motion effects were used (lighting streaks). Went crazy in AE! To answer LloydC, best thing I can tell you is just practice, practice, practice. I've learned most everything on my own, but a great site that can help you on your way is www.lynda.com

That was rock solid! Great work, I don't like dance, but I was interested.

The only critique I have is the closing title, where you show the School's info doesn't stand out as much as the rest of the video. Add something to it to match the feel of the rest of the video would be my suggestion.

Very Professional all around though.

I want to go there after seeing this video, but the commute is too far from california... Great work man.

This video really moved, I liked the energy and how it was edited as well. A lot of the background shots looked dark (behind those being interviewed). How did you do the effect bringing DOLLY DAVIS into the piece? It looked like you made her come to life from a still photo or something. That was a cool effect. Nice choice of music and overall nice job.

It was a combination of taking a still frame from the video, importing it into AE and then applying 3D stroke for the outline of her body. I then brought it back into FCP and added "shine" to give it the light glow. You can find these filters at www.trapcode.com

First off let me say that this was really well done. I enjoyed the piece very much. I only hvae one critique and then some questions:

Critique-
The audio seemed to hiss a little - like white noise. It was not distracting, but whenever there was an interview there was a little hiss in the audio. I'm not sure if this is due to the compression you put on it for the web, but that was my only real critique.

Questions:
For the interviews, how did you plan & exictue those? Was it a solo effort, or did you have a second camera op? The talent seemed really well spoken, and I liked what they had to say.

Street dancing - did you have to get permits, or did you just luckout and show up on location and film? What was that expierence like?

Thanks for your input. Keep up the great work.

Great questions and good ears on the hissing. This is not the final version, I was just anxious to get the footage up for comments. I still need to clean up that audio in soundtrack, as well as tweak a few minor clips.

There was another camera operator, but I've done many of these type interviews alone. It obviously helps to have another op. because he can concentrate on asking the questions, plus it gives your interviewee a face to talk to. It's a little awkward if you do it alone, but sometimes your the only person there.

Secondly, Ideally...we probably should have obtained permits for a couple of locations, but we didn't. Funny you ask this, because we had to change a location last minute due to not having a permit. Luckily, the new locale worked out better than the original, but this is not always the case. From what I understand you need insurance on your company before you can get a permit and I'm still researching the insurance stuff.
